Print & Digital Production Management
This client is a global investment management firm specializing in insurance asset management and research. As Graphic Design Lead within the Insurance Research division, I managed and led the editorial design and production of high-level financial publications and investor communications distributed to institutional clients.
My role centered on translating complex insurance research and market data into structured, brand-aligned visual systems that prioritize clarity, accuracy, and production efficiency.
Problem
The Insurance Research division produced multiple quarterly segment reports across various lines of business. While informative, the reporting structure created production inefficiencies and visual inconsistencies across publications. As reporting evolved from quarterly segment outputs to consolidated annual market overviews, the department needed a refined template system that preserved brand integrity while improving readability, cohesion, and scalability across 30+ page documents.
Solution
I led the visual transition from quarterly segment reports to consolidated annual market overviews. Working from the established brand framework, I restructured the layout system to support longer-form publications while elevating hierarchy, readability, and production efficiency — preserving the core structure while modernizing the visual approach.

Strategy: Clarity at Scale
Institutional readers need to absorb dense data and trust what they're reading. Throughout my three years with Conning I built out flexible template systems that enforced consistent typographic hierarchy, table styling, and chart treatment across every publication. The result was a scalable, brand governed system that improved visual consistency, sped up production, and elevated the reading experience for institutional clients reviewing complex financial research.
Systems Thinking
One template system scaling from quarterly reports to 30+ page annual overviews.
Readability
Typography and layout that guide readers through dense data with ease.
Brand Governance
Consistent visual language protecting brand integrity across every publication.
The Work: Template System
Evolving the Segment Report Series into a consolidated Market Overview system.
Cover system: Refreshed the cover from a contained diagonal-slash treatment into a cleaner, imagery-forward layout that scales across the publication series.

Reduced page density: The Segment Report had crowded the table of contents, five detailed themes, and a chart onto a single page. I gave the contents its own dedicated page and distributed the detailed content across separate pages. Improving readability and flow across the longer publication.

Stronger headers & wayfinding: Redesigned chapter headers from a small contained block into a
full bleed, imagery-backed header spanning the page; strengthening visual hierarchy and making sections easier to navigate.
The Outcome
A streamlined, brand-governed publication system that improved visual consistency across annual reports and enhanced the reading experience for institutional clients navigating complex financial research.
